About me

Sima Naghshdoust had always been interested in art (her last name “Naghshdoust” even means “friend of art” in Persian), but found her passion in creating art later in life. She began working on canvas with oil and acrylic colours in 2019 and has ever since showcased mastery of a great variety of styles. She perceives art as a tool to connect with the here and now as an ever-changing flow of emotions. Inspired by the mystic poet Rumi’s poem (Persian: من نه منم نه من منم), “I am not me, nor am I myself”, she allows herself to paint never knowing which one of her versions of “me” is in charge of the paint brush.

In this vein, Sima Naghshdoust’s artistic (as well as life) mantra is that art follows no rules other than commitment to freedom. This approach is reflected in the technique used in her work, acrylic on canvas with predominantly conventional tools, but at times with the twist of using no tools at all, or unconventional ones, such as toothbrushes, spoons, sponges or aluminium foil. Her artwork depicts nature and landscapes as well as colourful abstract movement, objects or humans. The dimensions of her paintings vary and range from 60 x 30 cm, 50 x 100, to 100cm x 100cm.
